Musial, Gwen

Gwen Musial is a graduate student in the Biomedical Engineering department at the University of Houston. She first was introduced to adaptive optics technology through a summer internship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After this first experience, she was hooked and continued on to work in the adaptive optics lab at the University of Rochester during her undergraduate studies and is now working in an adaptive optics lab for her graduate work. Biomedical Engineering is inherently an interdisciplinary field and Gwen is participating in the PDP program to enhance her scientific communication skills to be able to collaborate with people with a variety of different educational backgrounds.     gwenmusial@gmail.com

Reflection on how learners engaged with a STEM practice during the inquiry:

The first day the students were eager and seemed very engaged. Due to the problems of the group formation and juggling, 2 or 3 of the students seemed frustrated with their investigation and became less engaged. But then we came back to the CAT the students were all curious about the other phenomena and took on the role as the expert of their phenomena. The second day was incredible, the students came back in to the room during their lunch break to continue with their investigations. All the students were engaged and even one of the students that was more dicult to work with seemed to find certain elements of the activity stimulating.
